Today, March 8th is a day dedicated to praising the work of the women and communities around the world who raise awareness about women’s equality, who call for accelerated gender parity, and fundraise for female-focused charities.

Today is a focal point in the movement for Women’s rights.

Today is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women from all corners of the world.

Today is International Women’s Day.

#ChooseToChallenge is the campaign theme for International Women’s Day 2021, focusing on encouraging individuals and communities to commit to calling out inequality, when and where it is seen.

We are all responsible and in control of our own decisions, actions, and thoughts – all day, every day. So, choose to be proactive, especially today, in challenging the status quo, calling out gender bias and celebrate the achievements of women around you and globally.

Advanced Buildings is extremely fortunate to have amazing, strong, and inspiring women on our team and to be able to support, mentor and celebrate their achievements each and every day.

From challenge comes change, what are you choosing to challenge this International Women’s Day?

The message for R U OK? Day this year is “There’s more to say after R U OK?”

In a year when we have experienced devastating bushfires that burnt our beautiful land, to a global pandemic that has and still is affecting all near and far, we’re more likely than ever to hear someone say “No, I’m not OK.”

And it’s not always easy to find the words to continue the conversation when someone has said they’re not OK. But it could change a life.

We don’t have to be experts but, by reaching out to a friend, a family member or co-worker and letting them know that we’re there for them to listen, to care and to support them when they’re going through the ups and downs of life, they’ll know they can open up to us.

By knowing what to say next, we can help others around us feel safe and to access the appropriate help before they reach breaking point, and make a positive difference to their life.

Over the past couple months, due to the unusual working conditions, our teams have not been able to work together in our offices and see friendly faces everyday. Today, we gathered the Advanced Buildings team to share a socially distanced lunch together!

Conversation cards and conversation starters were printed out and place on all serving stations and tables, available to all who joined for lunch. Our General Managers reminded us that their doors are always open and phones are always on hand for anyone who needs someone to speak to or someone for support.

R U OK? Day 2020 might be coming to an end but the conversations shouldn’t stop. Everyday is the right day to ask, “Are you OK?” to anyone in your life that you know of or feel like they are battling with emotions, their own thoughts and daily life.

Because a conversation could change a life.
