Extensive hail damage in the Brisbane CBD

Austin on Grey Street, South Brisbane is a premium residential and commercial building in the heart of the city.

Located opposite the QLD Museum, QLD Art Gallery, QLD State Library, GOMA and QLD Performing Arts Centre (QPAC), Austin is in the heartland of the arts and cultural precinct for Brisbane.

The building stands tall at 20 storeys and features 140 quality apartments as well as the Grey Street dining precinct and the well-known Fish Lane.

The November 27 2014 Brisbane hail storm caused considerable damage to many homes and commercial buildings.

The storm struck at peak hour and lasted just a half an hour.

Wind gusts of 141 km/h (88 mph) were recorded at Archerfield.

The Damage

The external flashings of the building had been damaged during the storm.

Cost of Building and Restoration

The total repair cost was $450,000.

 The Challenges

The team were operating at a great height

The Advanced Buildings Qld team used the Gantry and Mast Climber to make the repairs. The equipment was attached to the outside of the building. This is the first time that Advanced Buildings QLD had used a Mast Climber.

A busy, downtown location

The Advanced Buildings team set-up a safety perimeter around the building to protect passers-by and prevent interruption to pedestrian and traffic flow.
